Anger, Resentment, Unforgiveness, It Burns!

Anger Resentment Unforgiveness
It Burns

I wonder how different the outcome, had Daniel chosen to be angry and fearful in the midst of this betrayal.

It's obvious King Darius had respect for and esteemed Daniel. Daniel 6:1-3, Let's pick up the story here... v. 1-3 "It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom; one hundred satraps,(I would liken them to mayors) to be over the whole kingdom; and over these, three governors, of whom Daniel was one, that the satraps might give account to them, so that the king would suffer no loss. Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm. " So here we have Daniel receiving a promotion and the next thing that happens is the others become hot with envy and try to look for a way to take him out. How many times an envious spirit has come over me and caused havoc in relationships, producing so much distraction in my heart that I would have liked to never found my way back. But not so with Daniel. He stays in sync with the almighty, and soon after he is promoted he is betrayed by those who are envious of him. Daniel runs to God, lands on his knees, and allows God to show him the seriousness of the problem, drawing strength from Him and does not panic.

So in the den of hungry lions he goes, with the Spirit of God strong in his heart and with the faith that His Daddy is the MOST HIGH GOD, he has nothing to fear. Wow I want that kind of faith! I believe he has this faith because he did not allow himself to get tied up in unforgiving anger toward those who betrayed him; but stayed his focus on God. This kind of attitude of the heart does not just happen because we are believers! This takes training our flesh to take a back seat to the Holy Spirit that lives in each one of us, and not allow even one second of entertaining any other thoughts the enemy will throw our way. DISCIPLINE, DISCIPLINE, DISCIPLINE! We need to grasp how important this is to our well being and embrace it as a wonderful gift and not a restriction to be dreaded. Discipline brings freedom.

So what happens in the end? Well, Daniel spends the night with hungry lions and an angel;  king Darius spends his night fasting refusing to be distracted by the musicians. And when Daniel is set free from the den of lions we pick up the story in v.21 "Then Daniel said to the king, "O king, live forever! My God sent His angel and shut the lions' mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him; and also, O king, I have done no wrong before you." Now the king was exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no injury whatever was found on him, because he believed in his God.

Morale of the story? When faced with any situation we can decide not to take offense and instead run to our God who will give us the answers to handle the situation. We do this by prayer and communion with Him. We MUST quiet ourselves immediately and not entertain any thoughts that would interrupt what God wants to speak to us. And He will shut the mouth of every lion that comes our way! Amen? AMEN!
